With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups implants serve for many years, and how long they last depends on the condition of the bone, on oral hygiene and on whether the patient smokes. The implant goes into the gap first. Once it has integrated with the bone, usually after 8 to 12 weeks, a ceramic crown is fitted on top: the visible part of the new tooth.
What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dentists point to several important advantages. Patients feel more like themselves. The gap in the smile disappears, because a crown mounted on a screw in the bone takes the place of the missing tooth. Chewing improves too: once the crown sits on the implant you can bite on that side again and go back to the flavours you enjoy. The implant also carries chewing loads into the bone, which helps limit bone loss where the tooth was lost. Comfort comes close to what you have with your own healthy teeth. You look after an implant as you would your own tooth: brushing, dental floss and check-ups at the dentist.
We start planning an implant with imaging. We take a CBCT 3D scan on site: it shows how much bone there is and where the nerve runs, so we choose the length and diameter of the implant before the procedure.
We place implants using custom surgical guides. That makes the procedure safer and lets us position the implant precisely where it was planned.
