Preventive dental care
Prevention covers everything we do to stop diseases of the teeth and gums from developing, or to slow them down.

The main cause of disease in the mouth is dental plaque.
Plaque left on the teeth leads to cavities, tartar, inflamed gums and periodontal disease.
Keeping your natural teeth has many advantages. You can chew properly and with normal force, and your teeth look natural. Just as important, keeping your own teeth stops the remaining teeth from wearing down or being overloaded. That is why prevention matters so much: removing plaque and tartar lowers the risk of decay and gum inflammation, and a check-up is a chance to catch a small cavity before it starts to hurt. It also saves money, because regular check-ups with a dentist can spare you long and costly treatment.
Prevention: how to look after your teeth
Preventive dental care takes many forms. To keep your mouth in good health, brush regularly, use floss and use a mouthwash. A diet rich in calcium counts for a great deal, and so does cutting down on sugar. Smoking and heavy drinking harm oral health: they cause unsightly staining, but the consequences can be far more serious.
Regular dental check-ups are one of the key parts of looking after your teeth. A dentist can spot small cavities that do not hurt yet, and pick up the first signs of disease of the oral mucosa. The more often you come for a check-up, the smaller the chance that a small cavity develops between one visit and the next. A preventive appointment is also a good moment to ask your dentist questions and make sure you are caring for your teeth the right way.
More information
The health of your mouth is linked to the health of your whole body. Food left between the teeth feeds harmful bacteria. Keeping your mouth clean supports your general health and how you feel day to day, so it deserves your attention.
A hygiene appointment is best repeated every six months. We remove deposits, plaque and tartar with ultrasound and air polishing. We then protect the tooth surfaces with preparations containing fluoride and calcium, known as topical fluoride application. Our dental hygienists carry out these appointments: Beata, Oliwia and Katarzyna. For air polishing they use an EMS unit.
